An event celebrated in March all across Canada

Oka (QC), March 1, 2021 – École-O-Champ, in partnership with Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C), is excited to present the 10th annual Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month (CALM)!

Each year, CALM encourages thousands of Canadian students from kindergarten to high school to celebrate the history of Canadian agriculture and the food sector. CALM is an interactive learning program designed to be integrated into the classroom during the month of March. Educating students about the significant impact the agriculture and food sector has on our daily lives as Canadians is what makes CALM so important.

The 10th edition of CALM will be marked by a special launch moderated by École-O-Champ's President Mathieu Rouleau and special guest, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. This special event will allow the public to discover 2 Quebec farms, all live! École-O-Champ and Agriculture in the Classroom Canada invites you to join the tour on Monday, March 1st on Facebook and on YouTube at 10:00 EST.

As part of the celebrations of Agriculture Literacy Month, EOC will officially launch its new educational resource platform for teachers and will offer 4 free educational videos on its social networks. By offering these resources to teachers, École-O-Champ hopes to promote and make agriculture and agri-food more accessible to students so that they understand its importance in our society. This year, EOC is also offering 5 elementary schools across the following regions the chance to win a science activity in 5 classes of their school: Montérégie, Estrie, Chaudière-Appalaches, Mauricie, Centre-du-Québec and Capitale-Nationale! Eligible teachers can register by filling out the form.

“AITC-C is thrilled to host Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month in 2021 and celebrate ten years of sharing the Canadian agriculture and food story with students from coast to coast!” said Johanne Ross, AITC-C Executive Director. “We can reach even more classrooms this year by bringing the program totally online and making meaningful connections between tens of thousands of students and those of us that work in the agri-food sector.”
